Le esclusive PS4 dominano con 22 nomination complessive
The Last of Us Part 2 ha raccolto 10 nomination, tra cui un Game of the Year, per guidare tutti i nominati per The Game Awards 2020, annunciati mercoledì. Anche gli altri cinque videogiochi scelti per GOTY hanno ricevuto nomination in più categorie, incluso il successo indie Hades, con nove in totale.
Hades, The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima e Final Fantasy 7 Remake sono stati tutti nominati per GOTY, così come tutte e tre le principali categorie di sviluppo: direzione del gioco, narrativa e direzione artistica. Gli altri due candidati GOTY, Doom Eternal e Animal Crossing: New Horizons (lanciati nella stessa data, per inciso) hanno ricevuto rispettivamente quattro e tre nomination.
In tutto, sono stati nominati 75 giochi diversi in 23 categorie. Sony Interactive Entertainment è l’editore più nominato, raccogliendone 22. I Game Awards hanno affermato che è secondo ai 23 record ricevuti da Nintendo nel 2017.
I Game Awards andranno in onda il 10 dicembre 2020 su diversi servizi e piattaforme di live streaming (un comunicato stampa dice che 45 in tutto). Lo spettacolo sarà trasmesso in un formato virtuale quest’anno a causa delle restrizioni pandemiche, con segmenti in onda in diretta da Hollywood, dagli storici Abbey Road Studios di Londra e da altre città. Il presentatore Geoff Keighley ha dichiarato nel programma di annuncio di mercoledì che sarebbe apparsa anche la The Game Awards Symphony.
