Destiny 2: Season of the Lost is the biggest patch of the year

Season of the Lost will lead straight into The Witch Queen

Destiny 2’s latest season, Season of the Lost, is here, and it’ll need to keep Guardians occupied for the next six months. Season of the Lost is the final season ahead of Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen expansion, which Bungie revealed alongside Season of the Lost on Tuesday.

For players concerned about a content drought, Season of the Lost promises some major changes to Destiny 2. Players will finally get their hands on cross play, anti cheat, a Trials of Osiris rework, and dozens of key balance changes. All of that also comes with the usual salvo of seasonal content.

Here’s a look at the content and updates coming in Season of the Lost. For the complete patch notes, scroll down.

Season of the Lost

The biggest thing to know about Tuesday’s patch is that it adds Season of the Lost itself to the game. That means more activities, more weapons, and more story to keep players busy for the next few months.

Season of the Lost contains the usual bevy of content, including a host of new Exotics for Guardians to play with.

Stasis weapons

Season of the Lost is also the first chance for players to pick up non-Exotic Stasis weapons. Like the Cryosthesia 77k sidearm from Season of the Splicer, non-heavy Stasis weapons will sit in the Kinetic slot instead of the Energy slot. They’ll also have special Stasis perks that allow Guardians to freeze and slow enemies, although Bungie promises it won’t be as frustrating as it sounds in PvP.

Cross play and anti cheat

Destiny 2’s latest season is also getting some major systems changes. Two of the most important new systems are cross play and anti cheat. For cross play, Guardians will be able to opt-in and group up with other players across all consoles and PC. Player’s names will automatically become their “Bungie name” when they log in on Tuesday — the Bungie name is the same across all platforms, and a way for Guardians in different ecosystems to friend one another.

Anti cheat comes in the form of BattlEye. BattlEye is a popular anti cheat software, and helps guard major games like Fortnite and Rainbow Six Siege. Bungie’s addition should help curb the major cheating problem inside Trials of Osiris.

Trials of Osiris rework

Speaking of Trials of Osiris: the mode is getting a facelift in Season of the Lost. Bungie is hoping to incentivize players to keep playing higher and higher cards for better rewards, so Guardians just starting their Trials journey will still have a chance. Players will also be able to target farm rolls for their favorite weapons, making Trials loot less luck-based.

Separate melee actions

For classes that have heavy special melee attacks — like the Hunter throwing knife — players will now be able to map the buttons separately on their keyboard or controller. By separating the melee into “melee attack” and “melee ability,” Guardians will have better control on when they simply bunch an enemy and when they spend their hard-earned melee energy to dish out serious pain.

Class, Exotic, and fusion rifle reworks

Like every season, there are some balance changes coming to Destiny 2 with Season of the Lost. But these changes are far more substantial than the usual season. The Light subclasses — as well as Stasis — will see some major improvements in Tuesday’s patch. Heavy-hitting Exotics like Anarchy won’t be as powerful as before, but other Exotics like Vex Mythoclast will see major improvement.

Fusion rifles are also getting a complete rework, which should make them more useful for PvE content, and incentivize players to use them over snipers, shotguns, and tube-fed grenade launchers.

Infinite primary ammo

Finally, Bungie will remove primary ammo bricks from the game in Tuesday’s patch. All primary weapons will now have unlimited ammo, so Guardians never have to worry about running out in a prolonged firefight.

Here are the complete patch notes for Destiny 2: Season of the Lost, posted to Bungie’s website on Tuesday morning.
